You read that right, it is the battles of Barbie (with built in video camera) vs. Canon’s EOS 7D for the crown off non traditional video camera of choice. Seriously though, this is just a fun video clipped that I spotted up on the Afripixel site over the weekend and its just too good not to share. Enjoy.

Canon 7D vs. Barbie Video Girl from Brandon Bloch on Vimeo.

A comparison between my two new cameras: The $1,800 Canon 7D versus the brand new $50 Barbie Video Girl… available in the girlie aisle of your local Toys R Us. It’s the sassiest camera money can buy.

This is also a spoof of another video that compared the Canon 7D and iPhone 4: “iPhone 4 as good as the 7D? No, but it’s amazing for what it is.” http://vimeo.com/12925855

Music: Tiga “You Gonna Want Me”

Enjoy. It’s all in good fun.

London, UK, 29th January 2010: Canon today announces a significant milestone by celebrating the production of its 50 millionth EF lens for its renowned EOS range of cameras, marking over 20 years of innovative technology and drive to provide photographers with the best quality products. This landmark was achieved during the manufacture of the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM and illustrates the incredible story that has seen Canon achieve the production of over 10 million lenses in just under two years. The story began in 1987 with the birth of the first camera in the EOS system, the EOS 650, and has since seen many groundbreaking advances in technology, including: 1987 saw the first lens with an Ultrasonic Motor – EF 300mm f/2.8L USM for professional sports and wildlife photographers In 1995 Canon introduced the worlds first interchangeable lens with Image Stabilizer – EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM for sports and wildlife enthusiasts In 2001 the first lens to incorporate Canon’s multi layered diffractive optics elements –

Canon LogoThe Canon EOS 7D was announced on the 1st September 2009 and today, just over three months since it was announced DPReview has reported the release of the much anticipated second firmware update for the new dual purpose (video and stills) beast. Does something sound all to Microsoftish about this camera? Release first and fix later.

One must wonder how many of those first batch buyers are pulling their hair out at this point… hey maybe I should ask my uncle-in-law who bought one two weeks ago.

In Canon’s defence though, at least it has not taken them to long to fix the issues reported after the first firmware update.

EOS 7DThe Canon EOS 7D has barely hit the shelves and already there is a new firmware for the camera. It seems to be a much needed one too as it improves the AF in Live View and video modes as well as corrects certain colour issues, shutter freeze problems etc.

One almost gets the feeling that Canon are taking a Microsoft approach, release now fix later. Think about it, this has been the approach with the EOS 1D MkIII, EOS 5D MkII and now the EOS 7D.

All we can hope for is that there is a siginifanct improvement as the very brief time we played with the camera these issues stood out. To find out more go to: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/firm-e/eos7d/firmware.html
