Thanks to the great support from Foto First, we are pleased to announce our involvement once again with Photos For Hope. This great initiative by the Sunflower Foundation raises funds to grow and maintain the bone marrow registry in South Africa. The registry is the first place people who are diagnosed with Leukaemia turn to when they need to find a match. Once again, images submitted to Photos For Hope will be exhibited and sold to raise funds for this fantastic cause.

You can upload your images here at PhotoComment. Foto First are sponsoring the printing of the first 1000 images as A4 enlargements. You also have the option when entering our Photo Decathlon competition to add your entry into the Photos For Hope submissions. This year there will be two Photos For Hope exhibitions. This first one is on 26 May 2012 at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. You can submit an image and buy it back in print with the funds going to a great cause.

SPLIT FACADES is a photographic project that explores the duality of experience and physical interaction that is manifested in the continuously changing landscape of Johannesburg city. The project aims to interrogate how the continuing push toward a globally marketable, gentrified ‘African’ city that has taken place over the past few years, ultimately fails to consider the informal but longstanding identity and ingenious culture of Johannesburg’s current inhabitants as one that is tied to the physical landscape of the city itself.

Greetings all, my apologies for it being a little quiet since Thursday, went away for my birthday over the weekend and in the rush forgot to set other stories to publish. Did learn a good lesson but that is for another post. This one is a reminder that this Saturday is the last Studio Workshop of 2011 in Potchefstroom as arranged by Emil Wessels. Head to our Facebook page for a special offer to a few lucky PhotoComment readers.

So things have been a little quiet here on the site the last few days, our excuse, we have been busy at the Photo & Film Expo 2011 in Johannesburg South Africa. It is the third year of the show and its been busier than ever. While we have not had our own stand there we have been kept busy and had the chance to catch up with some visiting officials from Epson and Zeiss who we will be sharing with you soon. In addition there are some great little odds and ends. It all comes to a close tomorrow and we will return to normal – what ever that is :-) from next week.

Before the year draws to an end there will be one more Full Day Studio Workshop run by Emil Wessels in conjunction with Graham Robertson and Sigma at the Snow Flake Mill in Potch. Check the above poster for me details.

This weekend is the annual Scott Kelby World Wide Photo Walk. Due to personal reasons PhotoComment team will not be hosting a Photo Walk as previously hoped however we strongly encourage everyone to check out for their nearest walk on the official World Wide Photo Walk website and register there to attend, they are great fun.

So if you are not too busy on a World Wide PhotoWalk this weekend perhaps you should book some time to get to the:

Brand new Foto First Flagship store opening in Fourways Mall on 1 October. Camera clearance specials with prices never seen before!

That’s the word we recently got from Foto First head office. If you have not visited one of their flagship stores recently and still think Foto First is a dingy, chemical smelling lab for fast film processing in an hour then think again, these stores stock top notch gear with competitive prices too. Do yourself a favour and check them out. For the Fourways store opening you can contact them on 011-465-3797.
