There has been little bits of news all over the web in the past week or so. Some of it bigger than others. Like Kodak filing for bankruptcy. It is sad to see a company which was actually rather innovative – after all they practically invented digital photography – fall because it was too scared to cannibalise itself in a time where their film products ruled the roost. Sad thing is, they could have owned the digital market and still had a profitable film business it seems. Read on for more on this and other stories.
There is just one week left for you to complete our Reader Survey and stand a chance to win a Vanguard Heralder 38 camera bag. Be sure to complete the survey at the link here. What are you waiting for.

It is still CES week and I am very excited to see something I was predicting recently would come in the future, now on route, an Android based camera! The company bringing this to market first is Polaroid. Grab more about that and other CES news when you click on “Continue Reading” below.

With this week being CES there is a lot of news to catch up on and it seems like it is steaming in faster than we can keep on top of. Some of it we have posted as individual articles like the Canon PowerShot G1X. What follows is a round up of the other new products announced.
Fuji X-Pro1 Finally Official
It is official, at last. While I may have labelled the Sony NEX-7 as a poor man’s Leica, the Fuji X-Pro1 may very well be seen as a direct competitor to the prestigious dream machine that many photographer lust after but few will ever own. The X-Pro1 is, in it’s simplest definition, a changeable lens X100. It has a 16MP sensor and will at launch have 3 lenses available for it. I think on the face of it, that I want one. Price is not yet confirmed but rumour – and leaks from Amazon – put it around $1700,00 body only. See the announcement by Engadget here or the DP Review Preview here.
This is quite likely the camera everyone has wanted from Canon for many years while still being the camera few people expected. It is a G-series on steroids. It features a 14.3MP CMOS sensor that is just a tiny bit smaller than the 1.6x crop APS-C sensor they use in much or their DSLR range. It is not the changeable lens, mirrorless machine many were expecting. Question is thought, for most photographers that this will appeal to, does it really need changeable lenses? Read on for the press release from Canon SA.
Welcome to the News Round Up. These posts will serve as a way of consolidating the many news stories that can break, sometimes on a single day. News Round Up will just highlight some of the most interesting news items we want to share and be accompanied with a comment or two from us plus a link to the source.

Each year around Jan/Feb the Consumer Electronics Show is held, usually in Las Vegas. In 2012 the show will also have a combined feature with PMA (Photo Marketing Association) and as such, it is expected that there will be even more photographic related activity than normal. Fuji have kicked things off with announcing nearly 20 new cameras, and that is excluding the big announcement everyone is waiting for, a changeable lens version of the ever popular X100. Read on for more about the new line-up for 2012.
Look what I found! Konica Centuria film. The expiry date is 08/2005, two years after Konica would cease to exist. It took some persuading from my side before the store owner would actually sell it (and the remaining rolls) to me as he was concerned that it was too far past it’s expiry date. It is kind of like the news today around Kodak. Wall Street Journal is reporting that Kodak is in preparations to file for bankruptcy if their current efforts to sell off their patents does not help save the company.
As I write this many of you are most likely already on leave or preparing to sign out for the weekend at the very least if not for the rest of next week as well. While I am doing some last minute photo printing as part of a family Christmas gift, I thought I would sit down and write this post which I have been pondering on for a while. I must be honest, I thought I would push forward through this time and man the fort solo but it just hasn’t worked out that way as you might have seen in the absence of activity on the site this week. Now as I write this I don’t think that is a bad thing, sometime we need space and time to breathe. Take time to enjoy this season. Spend it with those you love and/or remember those who are perhaps no longer with us. From all of us here at PhotoComment and Comment Media may we wish you all the best for this Christmas weekend and if you don’t check in with us till the new year, have a great start to 2012.
All the best and keep safe please.

Recently we shared with you a free Craft & Vision eBook that many of you jumped at and should have wet your appetite. Today sees the release of a new book by Craft & Vision founder (plus photographer and author of many books) David duChemin titles “Vision is Better 2″. This book is a follow on from a blog post David did that kicked everything off some 16 months back. I love the following quote from the first few pages of the new book:
At the risk of preaching this sermon one too many times, no amount of gear will make you a better photographer. It may, one day, help you make photographs you couldn’t make without it, but the question still remains – are those photographs really stronger images?
To find out more about the new book and get details of some discount codes read on.

Mashable are reporting that Instragram are developing an app for Android. Many user like myself will likely be trying to hide our excitement and thinking “FINALLY I don’t have to regret not having an iPhone” but don’t be so quick to react. All that the report confirms is the following statement by Kevin Systrom, CEO of Instagram:
We have two people working on Android now… I’m excited to be able to see our numbers today nearly double.
There is no talk of when the app will hit the Android Market Place. Instagram currently has 50 million users in their currently iPhone exclusive format and the fact that they expect to double that when they move to Android further shows the rapidly growing adoption of Google’s smartphone OS. See the complete story at Mashable here.
