We have a confession to make, this camera came into our hands almost right after it was announced. So why the delay in getting the review out? Firstly it came with firmware that was not final. Two days later, just moments after updating to firmware version 1.00, we got a message that there was another update and we have only been able to get that update done in the last few days. So, without further delay, let us dive into the Sony Alpha A77.

Sony’s stand at Photokina is amazing, particularly if it’s your first time at Photokina. We will bring you more pictures of the stand which is filled with areas for hands on shooting, and talks by Professionals shooting with Sony like Nick Webster who you will hear in the background of the video below.

The video – shot with Sony’s A55 – is of the BMX half pipe where visitors get to use the A33 and A55′s HD video and Speed Priority Mode while professional skate boarders and BMX riders show their stuff.

Ok, this picture of a sunrise is not a German or London sunrise, it still a South African sunrise. Yesterday afternoon we arrived at the airport for our flight to London only to find the flight was delayed for almost 12 hours. So here we are, at the airport waiting to board our plane.

As Greg says, the plane, the sunrise and hot chocolate makes for a perfect picture, except that its not in London.

The itinerary now is arrive in London, rush to make arrangement to get to Germany (we will have missed our train) and hopefully make it to Photokina before the Sony Press Conference. We will keep you posted. What would life be like without a little bit of excitement?

We have just got our hands on the new Sony Alpha A290 and A390 for review which does mean – as we want to have it in the June issue of the magazine – that we wont be publishing the magazine till later this week, but we thought we would give you a heads up of what has changed between these two cameras and their predecessors.

What Sony have done is reduce the entry level range from 3 models (A230, 330 and 380) to just the two (A290 & A390) In essence both cameras are the same, featuring 14mp CCD sensors. The only real difference is that the A390 sports live-view with a tilt screen which the A290 lacks. The make or break of these cameras though is if Sony have addressed the design of the Grip which was a deal breaker on the previous range. “So have they?” I hear you ask… well, you will need to wait for the full review in the magazine later this week, all I can say for now is yes and no.

Sony is exhibiting an array of innovative digital imaging products at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2010 International Convention, including a concept model of the new compact α (alpha) DSLR camera system that employs anExmor™ APS HD CMOS sensor, which provides full AVCHD video capability.

New concept α products being shown include an ultra compact model with interchangeable lenses, additions to the α family (including a successor to the α700), along with new TX5 and H55 Cyber-shot® cameras, new printers and other accessories.
