Sony SLT-A77 Advert

In case you have missed the updates on our Facebook Page or Twitter, the November issue of PhotoComment magazine is now out on the counters and shelves of photographic retailers, colleges and clubs across the country. You can also check it out online. We are pleased to announce that the magazine is now in testing for the iPad. If you would like to try it out please use this link but be aware it is still in testing, though we would like your feedback.

Before we dive inside this issue, please accept my apologies for the several typos that crept into this edition. There were more distractions and interuptions than usual in October which had a major impact on our deadline and with a slight bit of dislexia on my side there were some spelling mistakes that slipped through to print which should not have. I promise to be more “Discilpined” in future :-) sorry Eric Palmer.

Today seems to be a very busy day for announcements. In the mix of all the big camera announcements comes this new iPad magazine from Scott Kelby called ‘Light It’. Check out the video and find it in the iTunes store here.

You may recall that we had a Photos For Hope Gallery running on our site where images uploaded would be printed for Photos For Hope by Foto First. Well, COUP digital magazine featured several of the submitted image during that period leading up to Photos For Hope. Here is a link to COUP’s blog if you wish to learn more about those photographers and see their images.

After a slight hiccup the August 2011 issue of the magazine is now live and while we don’t like to brag here, we do feel its the best issue of the magazine to date. The fantastic cover is an image by Student Portfolio photographer Jessica MacLeod. A Vega student who recently scooped top honours at the Andalusian Centre of Photography and  Al Tarab 4th PhotoAfrica Contest. Read on for a summary of what is inside or just jump straight into the magazine. Jessica’s portfolio is on Page 14.

We have been overwhelmed at the response to the launch of PhotoComment Magazine in print just over a month ago. As you know we have tried to get the magazine out as far and wide as we possibly can but even then its not possible to get it everywhere.

With this in mind – and encouraging emails from you our readers – we have launched a subscription offer for PhotoComment’s print magazine to cater to both South African and international readers.

You can subscribe for one year by clicking on the SHOP tab at the top and adding to cart the R120.00 South African subscription or the R360.00 (approximately US$50.00 at time of writing) for the international subscription.

You will see that there is no charge for the actual magazine, the cost is purely to cover packaging and postage of the magazine each month.

We hope this helps those of you looking for the magazine in hard copy and struggling to get it in a store near you. We may even run a subscriber competition or give away soon – don’t worry you don’t have to wait till then to subscribe and qualify, you will be eligible for the duration of your subscription.

If you haven’t been following us on Twitter, the January 2011 edition is our second edition to go to print and is already in stores in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Cape Town should have it next week. In the mean time, here is a map listing all the stores with the January edition so far. It makes it a bit easier than trying to type out a list with addresses etc. You can also read the latest issue online as it has been since day one.

Light Leaks low fidelity photography, is a magazine for film lovers.  We admire the “fiercely independent” style and high quality print.

The latest issue, “HolgaPalooza 2010″, features the winners of their Holga competition.  You can view PDF’s of the magazine before deciding to purchase. Back issues are also available if you can’t get enough of the amazing images that “toy camera’s” can produce.

Light Leaks testifies that film is not dead and digital will find it hard to compete.
